Grocery Bridge Network was created to respond to the needs of our community with compassion, dignity, and community connection. We are a network, not a non-profit. We do not accept donations of any kind. Instead, we offer a simple, peer-to-peer way for neighbors to support neighbors by sharing groceries when someone is going through a difficult time. There is no intake process, no proof of need, no transaction. Recipients choose the food that fits their households, and helpers give the assistance they need, fostering safety, respect, and relationship.
Roughly 44% of households in St. Tammany Parish regularly struggle to cover their basic needs. In other words, nearly half of the community is one unexpected bill away from food insecurity.
This doesn’t mean people are failing. It means our economic landscape is challenging. Wages do not always keep pace with the rising cost of living. Hours fluctuate. Emergencies happen. And when someone is already budgeting carefully, even a small setback can mean a choice between paying bills on time or feeding their family. Grocery Bridge Network is here to make sure, in those moments when things feel overwhelming, you are not alone.
Our network is made up of parents, students, retirees, workers, neighbors, and friends. We believe care should move in every direction. At Grocery Bridge Network, anyone can receive support, and anyone can offer it. Many participants find themselves on both sides at different times in their lives. Our network is free from hierarchy and reinforces a simple truth: we all need help sometimes, and we all have something to give.
This is community care, rooted in dignity.
This is the bridge we’ve always needed.
